Sunset on the Malecón

Sunset times in Santo Domingo for every month, and where the sun goes down as seen from the seafront.

Sunset times by month

Santo Domingo keeps Atlantic Standard Time (UTC−4) all year, with no daylight saving, so sunset moves only with the seasons. The times below are for the 15th of each month at the Malecón.

Where to watch it

The Malecón faces south across the Caribbean, so the sun never sets straight out to sea in front of you: it goes down to your right as you face the water. From November to February it sets to the west-southwest, low over the sea and the western shore. In June and July it sets well to the west-northwest, over the city.

Walk the promenade in the half hour before sunset, then come up to the terrace as the lamps come on.

Plan the evening

  • We open at 3 PM, so you can sit down well before sunset in every month.
  • It gets dark fast in the tropics: about 23 minutes after sunset, as the table shows.
  • Coming with a group for sunset? Message us first.

Times computed with the NOAA solar position equations for 18.456°N, 69.915°W, rounded to the nearest minute. They shift by a minute or two from year to year.
