Malecon Vibes is a lounge bar on Avenida George Washington, the seafront avenue Dominicans call the Malecón. We open at 3 PM every day and pour until midnight.
The name says where we are and what we are for. The logo carries three small symbols, a coffee cup, a knife and fork and a cocktail glass, and the same three glow on the round signs by the door. That is the day here: coffee in the afternoon, something to eat, and drinks into the night.
Inside, the room is built around a round white bar and a wall of lit shelves. Outside, the terrace sits under the building's arcade, facing the avenue.
On the Malecón
The Malecón is Santo Domingo's long seafront drive along the Caribbean. Its central stretch, Avenida George Washington, opened in 1936 and is lined today with hotels, parks and monuments. Read the story in our guide to the Malecón.
We are about 200 metres from the promenade, half a kilometre from the Plaza Patriótica Héroes de Abril and about two kilometres from the Renaissance, Sheraton and Crowne Plaza hotels further east along the avenue.
